The Verdict
Weebly was once a top-tier website builder, but in 2026, it's showing its age. After Square acquired it in 2018, development has focused almost entirely on Square Online (the ecommerce side), leaving the general website builder feeling neglected.
That said, Weebly still works. The editor is genuinely easy to use — arguably easier than Wix — and the free plan is decent for getting started. For someone who just needs a basic website with minimal fuss, Weebly gets the job done.
But I can't recommend it with enthusiasm. The templates look dated, the feature set hasn't kept pace with competitors, and there's real uncertainty about Weebly's long-term future as a standalone product.
